Go electric? How cool is the electric violin. Just take the plunge
The electric violin is to die for! I bet if you have been playing a while - and particularly if you perform in a band - you will end up wanting to try one!
It probably won't be your first instrument - although some are probably cheaper than a decent acoustic instrument. Some electric violins are acoustic and electric. If you buy a pure electric one you won't be able to hear it when you can't plug it into an amplifier like the Wood Violins Wood Violins Electric Violin Amplifier Standard so you need to take that cost into account too.
You get what you pay for. There are some budget ones around but you are likely to need to do some work such as fitting fine tuners, improving strings and so on. Don't be put off! Just do your research and read reviews before you buy one. All the fiddles below are popular.
You can do a whole heap of things with them. Amplification is just the beginning. Once you are into that, there are all sorts of gizmos which you can use to alter pitch, create loops etc.You can sound like a whole orchestra on your own. And you can use them in conjunction with your computer.
We will be adding more pages with our recommendations of the essential kit and some of the fun things you can add when you have the money or inclination. So come back and visit soon.
In the meantime here is Vanessa-Mae ( Vanakorn Nicholson ) playing her Zeta Jazz electric violin. Enjoy...
